Before Instagram, it would be inappropriate to talk about swimwear outside the confines of the Spring/ Summer season. Thanks to the ‘gram, swimwear has become a reasonless wardrobe staple often worn year round by über confident women like Ashley Graham, Rocky Barnes and Precious Lee. It’s really exciting to see women of all sizes celebrating their bodies; and helping us all gain a bit more of bikini confidence.
Seeking to ditch all my insecurities and channel my inner body-confident goddess, I hit the beach to capture this capture this swimwear editorial.
How I gained bikini confidence
- I found a muse. I look to women who may look, be of similar size or personality as me for inspiration. Whatever your ethnicity, shape or personality, there’s plenty of body confident role models from which you can gain inspiration – just search Instagram!
- I listened to my body. This may sound like a cliche, but paying attention to what my body responds to positively and negatively has helped me tremendously. For example, I’ve noticed that overtime I eat dairy my skin and my body react negatively; so I removed dairy from my diet (as much as I can) and have noticed an improvement in my skin and energy levels.
- I celebrated my body; no matter what! Everyday I make a conscious effort to really look at myself in the mirror and lovingly appreciate my cellulite, stretch marks, weight, height, skin tone and a myriad of other awesome facets of my wonderfully made body.
